In the play The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, the people use the devil in many ways. All it takes is telling you saw someone with the devil to have him or her killed. Once Tituba is blamed for the act of witchery, she begins to act like Abigail and tell on others to try and save herself. Abigail told Parris someone came to her with the devil trying to persuade her to kill him. They told her to “kill that man”. Tituba blames Sarah Good and Goody Osburn for trying to make her cut Parris’ throat. Once Tituba calls out their names, others begin to yell out things these same two have done to them.


Mary Warren accuses Goody Osburn of putting a curse on her every time she leaves from her doorstep begging for food. Goody Osburn says she only states her commandments, but when asked to state them, “she never knew no commandments”. Goody Osburn will be killed now all because of Tituba saying she acts with the devil. The devil is used as deadly weapon in this play, and it kills many.
