How I became a Master Student!


When I began school this semester, I felt somewhat overwhelmed. The year before, I decided that I would fill my senior year with all dual enrollment classes. On top of my intensified responsibilities at school, I had a job waitressing at Steak ‘n Shake. Being used to a more lenient academic schedule, I soon became stressed and anxious, which began to affect my grades. However, one of my dual enrollment courses, College Success, did not add stress to my life; it actually helped me to develop better skills as to achieving my goals and expectations. Time management, note-taking techniques, and the muscle reading process have greatly improved my studying habits, thus improving my grades.


Time management, located in chapter two, has helped me to organize my priorities and my schedule. Time just wasn’t on my side, especially when I had a job to juggle along with my academics. These tricks have helped me to take more efficient notes. The final and most important step is to review. I found that simply editing my first draft of notes helped me to absorb the information. Typing my notes is another good way to both organize and study them. Either way, if the notes are looked over within 4 hours of the lecture, the information will be converted from short-term memory to long-term memory.


Muscle reading is another technique that has helped me to improve my grades. It’s a three-phase system including preview, outline, question; read, underline, answer; recite, review, and review again.
