Flight Centre

Flight Centre is in the market of retail travel and tourism. It is a travel agency at which people wishing to go on holiday whether domestic or International, come into one of there many stores and speak to a travel consultant about where they want to go and how much that will cost them. The Consultants then is able to book the holiday for the customer/client whether that is a hotel or an International flight to Paris.

The market for people wanting to travel in this modern era is of gigantic proportions with people particularly in Western Cultures wanting to escape the busy and chaotic modern life of today’s world.

Travel has become more adventurous before what was seen, as a peaceful place to go for a holiday has now become a tourist nightmare. Persons wishing to get away from it all have to venture out further. This has opened up the door for more remote destinations for the young; holiday places such Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam places that traditionally were not accessible. Also in many cases the lack of time of many in the Western World causes people to consider time limits. Often there is not enough time to go from Australia to Europe. As there point of the Holiday is not to be on a plane for a substantial part of their holiday, also the cost of trips to closer locations is more than likely to be half of a trip to Europe.

Young people generally do have a lot higher budget than older travellers.

The market for travel is big with every person particularly in the younger generation seeing travel as a must. Just by looking at the amount of youth hostels opening up in recent years gives you an idea of how big the market for travel is.

The world even after the horrific events of September 11 001 still wants to travel and broaden their mind. As the Western Countries become more and more overcrowded. The market for travel will increase. Every person will need to get away from the hustle and bustle of modern western life.

As the third world countries inhabitants begin to gather money together I believe the market will be global and the chance for Flight Centre to become one of the worlds biggest companies extremely high.

The mission/purpose of Flight Centre fit in strongly with this concept. Mission is “To open up the world for those who want to see.” Flight Centre must set an objective to increase it’s market share of the Young travel market. Young persons like something different or away from mainstream, Flight Centre do have the staff being young enthusiastic but do not have the store layout, the store are set up as a more formal like occasion with package.

Key Competitor Analysis

The key competitors against Flight Centre are five key companies with Jetset and Travel world now joined together that combination could prove to be lethal for Flight Centre. Three of these competitors try to tackle Flight Centre head on with Web jet running an extensive Television campaign mentioning Flight Centre claims of being the cheapest airfares and attempting to convert Flight Centre customers away from Flight Centre web and on to there web site.

In an Article in the Sydney Morning Herald dated Thursday November 6th it addresses the competitors of Flight Centres wish to challenge Flight Centre. It talks about the joining of Travelworld and Jetset and also the company buying the once Ansett owned company Traveland which is now not in existence but owned by Jetset. Mr sparks chief executive of Jetset stated “ Flight Centre has a very strong positioning in the marketplace in terms of price and air business, What I am after is the value proposition and providing a solution for the customer who wants to come in and be apart of the process.” Recent profits for Jetset were in fact down because of September 11 yet Flight Centre profits reached record highs how competitive this new team will be I don’t know.

Webjet has taken a lot of business from the Flight Centre web market. Flight Centre does not have big market share in terms of web based booking with more and more people using the web nowadays its something which Flight Centre needs to address in the near future before company’s such as Webjet do take over the web based booking industry.

Thomas Cook travel is the biggest competitor in overseas market it has been established overseas for many decades now and particularly in the United Kingdom Thomas Cook has the same amount of Market share as Flight Centre does in Australia.

Flight Centre is really keen to expand it’s overseas market but with big established names like Thomas Cook, Flight Centre may find it rather difficult. Harvey world travel is a large competitor to flight Centre consultancy business as it has a range of stores which do offer package deals and exceptional service and also is well renowned and trusted brand in the marketplace. A web based American based company called Expedia could prove to be a threat with ¼ of the Staff of Flight Centre it’s profit is more than 5 times that of Flight Centre due to the low overheads involved in web based booking. Expedia was started up by Compaq so it users the most up to date technology.

Target Market Analysis

Market include

· Family’s

· Students

· Retires

· Business people

· Singles

· Couples

In a recent survey done by Flight Centre it shows that their Customers are what their occupation is age etc.

Age % Of Customer

15-4 1%

5-4 1%

5-44 %

45-54 1%

55-64 16%

65+ 8%

Occupation %

Unemployed 1%

Retired 1%

Student 6%

Home maker 6%

Manual worker %

Trades 4%

Sales/Services 1%

Semi professional 14%

Business Managers professional 41%

As you can see from these results the age of customers at Flight Centre do vary enormously but their occupation is in more than half the time going to be either semi professional or professional in 54% of cases surveyed that was the case. There is 64% chance that the Flight Centre customers are aged between 5 and 54 years.

Surprisingly only 6 % of Flight Centre customers were students and only 1% were aged between 15 and 4. Today students are travelling more than another age bracket, this suggest that Flight Centre has not hit the Student Market yet and that students are not using Flight Centre. It is from this that I believe Flight Centre needs to change slightly and Target a more student base client between the agers of 15-4.

For a company, which has 0% market, share to only have 6% of its clients between the ages of 15-4 is wrong, particularly when persons in that age bracket make up in Australia 7% of all travel.

Promotion (retail Marketing Mix)

The promotion mix for Flight Centre will consist of many channels. The first channel used will be the television. The main focus for the promotion budget will be directed towards television. The Ads will contain information on seasonal deals and feature the company logo and slogan, as well as drive to web. The ads will be aimed at all areas of the market with a main emphasis on family programs.

Flight Centre will also involve itself with trade shows. Setting up information stands at all the major tourism shows and ads in trade publications and in-flight magazines. Flight Centre wants to get its product out into the travelling market

Flight Centre will also be sending out brochures to its previous customers. These brochures will be similar to the television ads, explaining up and coming deals. The difference between this and the television ads is that the brochures will be more in depth.

There will be similar brochures handed to universities, TAFE, Colleges and backpackers. These brochures will focus mainly on student deals and deals to places where students visit frequently.

Conclusion

This is a focused plan, aimed at gaining more of a market and stimulate the previous market to become active again. The idea behind the promotions is to push the deals. We want to get the idea across to the market that Flight Centre is the cheapest and best way to travel the world.

We have aimed at gaining more of a family and student market share. We feel that this is a boom area, as they gain more money.

A Book Report on The Alchemist By Paulo Coelho Submitted to Ms. K. Deshotel By Timothy

Zimmerman English IV AP(G) - hour 1 Northshore High School 0/1/000 Biography of Author -

Paulo Coelho was born in Rio de Janiero in 147 and before his career as a best-selling

author, he was a playwright, theatre director, hippie, and popular songwriter for some of

Brazils leading pop artists. In 186 he took a pilgrimage along that Road of Santiago

and this would be the center of the plot of the book, The Pilgrimage, which was published

in 187. His second book was named The Alchemist and was published in 188. This book has

gone to number one in countries and Coelho has been regarded as the most widely read

contemporary writers. The Alchemist was one of the top ten international best sellers of

18. His work has been published in more than 100 countries and is translated into

different languages. He has been awarded a variety of prestigious awards from many different

countries. He today lives in South America with his family. Main Characters - The Shepherd -

This was the boy through whose eyes the story was told. He followed his personal legend to

the fullest and never let up with his dream. He went all over the land and was able to realize

the treasure that he had been so close to in the beginning of the novel. The King - He was the

one that gave the shepherd the two stones that would supposedly help him whenever he had a

rough time deciding about what to do. He made the boy give him ten percent of his flock,

because you should never promise something that you dont have. The Englishmen - This was the man that the boy met on his trip to the pyramids. He was the one who turned the boy onto the idea of the alchemist and the masterwork. Before this he had never known of the alchemist and the great things that he could do in the world. The Alchemist - This is the man that he met in the desert and he helped the shepherd to lead the people from the danger that was imminent from the war. He also allowed the boy to follow his legend and realize his dream. Summary - The story begins when the shepherd boy stopped for the night in a church with a sycamore tree growing out of the middle. He told of the easy going life of the shepherd and how his parents had wanted to become a priest. He had attended all of the schooling, but had decided against it at the last minute. He had wanted to see the world and he felt that the best way to do this was to go and become a shepherd. He said that the life of a shepherd is easy and carefree and he felt like that this was the way that he wanted to spend his life. He was anticipating

seeing the daughter of a man who would buy the wool from his sheep when he arrived in the

town that he would come to in another couple of days. He thought that he might actually

settle down and get married to this girl if she would like to. He had been having a recurring

dream about him at the pyramids in Egypt. There he would be able to find all of the treasure

in the world and to realize what would come to be called his personal legend. So, the next

town that he went to he went to a fortuneteller and asked her if she could help him out of his

dilemma. She was unclear about what to do, but she made him promise to give him a percentage of

his treasure if he ever found it. When he left the fortuneteller, he went and sat in the park

where he would have been content to read his new book. He was not in a good mood for talking

with others when the old king approached him and tried to strike up a conversation with him.

He told the boy that everyone has a personal legend that he has to fulfill at some time in

his life. He tells him that his could be found at the pyramids because of the dreams that

he has been having lately. He tells him that he will help him if he will give him ten percent

of his herd, because you should never promise anything that you dont have yet. He sold all of

his sheep and he was given ummim and thummim, the two rocks that would help him make any

decisions that he was unable to make. He took to the road and traveled to the northern tip of

Africa. There he was setting off with all of his money in his pocket and set to a bar where he

didnt speak the same language as any of the people there. He was taken for a fool and all of

his money was taken in the first few hours. He stayed in the town for a while and he went into

a shop that sold crystal. He helped the man to clean all of the crystal and while he was there,

two people came in and bought crystal. The owner thought that this was a good omen and that he

should try to keep the boy around. Since he didnt have any money he stayed on for eleven months

and greatly improved the mans shop. When he finally left he had enough money to do with what he

wanted and he set off to fulfill his personal legend. He traveled to the pyramids by way of

northern Africa. About half way through his trip he came onto an oasis that was in the middle

of a war between two native tribes. The rules of war said that the oasis should be a safe

haven for all of the people that were traveling through the desert. This is where he met the

alchemist, the man that would help him to realize his personal legend. By going off into

desert at night, he learned all about the masterwork and the many things that he needed to do

in order to become a true alchemist. He began to have a dream about a group of rebels attacking

the oasis because they thought that the travelers would be taking up arms against them. The boy

went to the men who were in charge of the oasis and told them of the impending doom that was

coming onto the oasis. They didnt believe that this dream was an omen but they gave him one

shot. The rebels did attack and they were able to fend off all of the assailants. The boy was

hailed as a hero and he went off into the desert to seek his personal legend. Here he was

forced to make a decision about whether or not to leave behind the woman that he had met and

had decided to marry. He said that he would return later and he did. This was after he found

out about his treasure that he wanted for such a long time. He finally figured out that his

treasure was in the sycamore tree that was growing out of the middle of an old church. He

returned to his homeland and had his treasure intact and was able to live happily ever after.

Theme - The main theme of this novel was that you should follow your personal legend to the

fullest. Throughout his life the boy had been discouraged and could have given up on his dream.

But, this would have caused a void in his life. This is sort of like the old man who owned the

crystal shop, who would not take a pilgrimage because he would have nothing left to look forward

to in his life. When the boy was leaving though, he did decide to take the pilgrimage and

probably did not regret the fact that he had done something to prove his faith. The Boy faced

many obstacles in his lifetime but stayed true to what the omens had told him and also what his

personal legend had been. In the end he realized the legend and found what he thought to be

true happiness. Analysis - The thing that particularly annoyed me about this book was the fact

that was that the theme was ever changing. Within the main theme there were many other small

themes that helped to develop the main theme, but added to the confusion of the novel. The

thing that I liked about this book was that it was very straightforward and left nothing up to

the imagination. If I were to rewrite this book I would change it by adding in a little more

bad things that happen to the main character to show the real hardships that he had faced while

chasing his personal legend. If I would have had the opportunity to speak to the boy in the

book I would have told him that he should have stayed on at the crystal shop because he had a

good thing going and he could have made a lot of money and bought his own happiness and

realized his personal legend in his own rite. One thing that reminded me of another book that

I read was In the Lake of the Woods, because both of the main characters were trying to run

away from what had been in their lives to find something better. I would recommend this book

to anyone who was undecided about what their life was meaning to them. This book really gives

them insight about their lives and that someone is worried about them and that there is

something that they have to look forward to, like the crystal merchant.

Arthur Miller

Novel writer

1 Hillside Rd

PO Box 84

Castle Hill NSW 154

Dear Arthur Miller,

I have just read your fantastic play Death of a Salesman and it has enlightened me about the American Dream and the terrifying extent that people will go to try and capture it. I believe “The American Dream”, is the idea that life in America assures certain things and that it guarantees a certain way of life. According to this ideal, the United States is the land of freedom and opportunity which guarantees; Stability and comfort in the home, Success in a good job and nuclear family and the Ability to overcome difficulties. Therefore the people, who strive for “The American Dream”, are looking for these three things and believe it is the only way to survive in a harsh world.

In your play Death of a Salesman Willy Loman a sixty year old Brooklyn salesman accepts “The American Dream” and struggles to attain it throughout the play. Biff on the other hand is the opposite of Willy and he rejects “The American Dream”.

A related text that also is critical of “The American Dream” is the movie by Sam Menandez American Beauty, in this movie Lester rejects “The American Dream” as he realises that it is unsatisfying.

Arthur in your play, Willy Loman stands accused of the worst thing that can happen to a man in 0th century American; failure. The great American myth is that the world lies open to you, and its archetypal embodiment is the salesman. If you fail, you are jobless and placeless; we know that Willy Loman failed when he says “I still feel kind of temporary about myself”, as this shows that he is unsatisfied and lacks hope in his life, also the word “temporary” suggests that he is unsettled, especially as his job as a salesman requires him to travel all the time. Willy accepts “The American Dream” as he has been indoctrinated that it is the only dream to strive for, he believes that it is the panacea to all problems and will lead to fulfilment and safety but we see that in the end Willy was naive to think that it is the answer to all his problems as he ends up committing suicide because of the all great “American Dream”. In your play Willy gets fired because he is a salesman who can’t sell, Willy views his “firing” as an indictment on his whole personality. As Charley says on page 77 “the only thing you’ve got in this world is what you can sell”. Now that Willy has no job his “American Dream”, is falling apart and he feels like his identity is crushed and his way of relating to the world is destroyed and even results in borrowing money because he can not face the reality that he has been fired. When Happy says to Biff, “Dad is never so happy as when he’s looking forward to something”, shows that Willy is happy when he is living in a dream world which is why he is so adamant to achieve “The American Dream”, because he is living in a fantasy world.

In Death of a Salesman Biff rejects “The American Dream”, unlike his father Willy and brother Happy who accept it. Biff rejects “The American Dream” as he perceives it to be false and can see through it, he also has seen that it has a detriment effect on the world as shown by the death of his father and he blames his father’s death on “The American Dream” when at his funeral he says “He had the wrong dreams. All, all, wrong”. Biff realises that his father was a phoney and he accepts reality and moves on with his life and tries to get Happy to face the reality that the reason his father died was because of his strong ambition to attain the false

Consider the role that Duke Vincentio plays in Measure For Measure. Do his actions remain consistent throughout? Are his actions responsible? Refer to the novel in order to support your answer

Duke Vincentio plays a very important, yet controversial role in William Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure. Firstly he gives power away to Angelo his deputy, and disappears from the Viennese political scene, to come back as an advice-giving Friar. He then goes on to try to resolve the situation between Isabella and Angelo. Angelo his replacement at the head of power gives Isabella an ultimatum involving the life of her dear brother Claudio. Isabella has to sleep with Claudio in order for her brother not to be executed, so Isabella comes to Duke Vincentio (disguised as Friar Lodewick) for help.

The Duke in Act , scene we first see the Duke disguised as Friar Lodewick and he seems very helpful, caring and virtuous which of course are the traits that made him the Duke he was. The Duke’s action seem to be very unselfious, he gives up his power because he feels he is not fulfilling his duty and goes out of his way to help the grieving Juliet. Then the Duke meets Isabella and falls for her beauty he even goes as far as saying that ‘the hand that has made you fair hath made you good’. This influences his actions for the rest of the play, as he now seeks to make Isabella his own and make sure she stays away from Angelo. He then makes sure that Isabella switches with Mariana, who was betrothed to Angelo, and that she goes to sleep with Angelo instead of Isabella. He then switches Claudio with Barnadine and he is executed instead of Claudio.

The Duke’s actions remain constant as they help other people out, and he pushes for a joyous resolution. But of course the actions that he commits for him only have two final destinations. Firstly he wishes to become Duke again, and wants the Viennese to see just how virtuous and inspiring a leader that he can be. His actions more than suggest that he is trying to push Angelo away from power. Secondly his actions proof that he is madly in love with the fair and enchanting Isabella. He would not risk the life of Mariana by sending her to Angelo instead of Isabella, and execute Barnadine to make to Isabella happy if he was not doing everything for her. Therefore we can also say that his actions are not always constant as he switches the aim of his actions. His actions can be seen as acts of love, or as acts of trickery on Angelo.

The actions that he takes cannot entirely be seen as responsible. The only types of responsibility that he used in his actions are the ones that he has to accept the full responsibility for. His actions cannot fully be justified as being responsible or even reasonable; after all he is blinded by his love for Isabella. He tampers with the emotions of Mariana and Angelo by re-uniting them after their traumatic separation due to the unfortunate drowning of Mariana’s brother. Angelo is in a state of shock as he now knows that he must renounce his position as Duke, due to the fact that he had already committed (and was about to commit the same crime again) the crime that his regime and rule was so against. The execution of Barnadine on the other hand can be seen as responsible although many would beg to differ. Barnadine was already waiting to be executed a long time and he had commited a crime under the Duke’s reign. Claudio commited a crime that was hyprocritcally condemned by Angelo, so Claudio had a viable reason not to be executed.

The last speech made by the Duke in the play sums up all of his actions and the reader has to make his own judgement on whether or not the Duke’s actions were consistent and responsible. The Duke became madly in love with Isabella and therefor his actions were not responsiblty, instead they can be seen as selficious. But his actions can be described as consistent as he is persistant in reclaming the title of Duke, and in obtaining Isabella’s hand in marriage.

Resource Allocation Negotiation

We are ready to represent the best custom paper writing assistance that can cope with any task like Resource Allocation Negotiation even at the eleventh hour. The Resource Allocation negotiation was my first opportunity to participate in a multi-party negotiation. Managing the multi-party dynamics proved to be particularly difficult and while the outcome in pure financial terms was fairly positive for my company (Techville Enterprises), I was totally unsuccessful in building trust and goodwill with the other parties involved. The primary issue that I had difficulty with was clearly communicating with Jenny C. (Sturdyville, Inc.) and setting up a coalition. In my pre-negotiation analysis, I had come up with a justification for valuing Steve H.’s (Unityville Industries) contribution at $40,000. Unfortunately, I was unable to let her know this information prior to the negotiation which led to huge difficulties creating and maintaining a stable relationship with both players.

As the middle size player in the negotiation, my goal was to quickly establish both qualitative and quantitative rationale for why we should not just split the pie into three equal segments. Utilizing a portfolio theory approach, I attempted to appeal to Jenny and Steve’s sense of utility maximization for the group. I argued that looking at the situation from the standpoint of the Resource Allocation Fund, the largest amount of funds should go to the company which posed the least risk, Sturdyville and also that Unityville was the riskiest bet and it did not make sense to allocate an equal portion of the funds to this research. In response to this analysis, neither Steve nor Jenny acted in the manner in which I expected. Jenny agreed in some respect with the idea, however, she did not readily admit that I deserved any more of the pie than Unityville and Steve did not respond at all. While the logic seemed appropriate, I believe that I made two huge errors here. First, I should have spoken with Jenny prior to the negotiation. If I had done that, I could have made it crystal clear that I was not looking to take the largest piece of the pie. This may have helped galvanize her support for the qualitative reasoning. Second, rather than puSteveg my analysis directly, I could have created more of a discussion atmosphere by introducing “portfolio theory” concepts and acting more as a facilitator to make my arguments. This approach could have deflected some of the negative feelings Steve felt towards me and would have appeared as a less distributive tactic. It was too early in the discussion to get into such distributive matters.

The quantitative analysis indicated that a Sturdyville and Techville combination could garner $xxx, while the three companies together would only be able to get $xxx or $xxx more. I used this as the basis to discuss how much should be allocated to Unityville in a three way partnership. Once again, this did not go over well with the other parties. At the same time that they both agreed that a three way deal would clearly be the most optimal outcome, Steve felt threatened and Jenny believed that I was going for the largest piece of the pie. In both the qualitative and quantitative cases, I had succeeded in setting the groundwork; however, it was at the expense of my reputation as a team player and integrative negotiator.

In a three-way negotiation, it is difficult to place yourself in a position where it does not appear that you are taking sides. Jenny and Steve, having heard my quantitative analysis, asked me how much I felt I deserved. This was clearly a loaded question. As soon as I mouthed “$xxx”, I realized I had made a big mistake. By anchoring on a number that was specific to my interests, I set myself apart from both Steve and Jenny. I do not think setting the anchor was a mistake, however, in response to the specific question I was asked, I should have spoken about the package as a whole (including all the parties).

Jenny took the initiative to put the first full package on the table, $xxx for Sturdyville, $xxx for Techville, $xxx for Unityville. Considering all of the arguments against Unityville receiving this amount, Steve should have felt this was a generous offer. However, because of the distributive tactics I had used earlier, we failed in setting up a fairness standard to compare this deal to and Steve became very hard to convince. Jenny was focused on having three parties involved and coming up with an integrative solution, so she continued to change the parameters of the deal until Steve would accept. We ended up agreeing upon $xxx for Sturdyville, $xxx for Techville and $xxx for Unityville. At first glance, this would appear to be a fairly good deal for all parties. Unfortunately, because of the events leading up to this point, Steve felt cheated and Jenny and I did not receive an amount commensurate with our initial expectations. In the future, I will absolutely try to 1) create a coalition prior to the negotiation and ) spend more time absorbing information before puSteveg my own agenda. Each of these tactics could have helped me to leave the negotiation with much stronger relationships with the other parties.

Jenny was clearly the most positive throughout the negotiation and remained focused on achieving the most integrated solution. She indicated as much early on and built trust with both Steve and I in the process. In addition, her tone was relaxed and cooperative even through the more distributive aspects of the negotiation. Although, it appeared that we had taken sides against Steve, I believe Steve felt more resentment for me about the end outcome. The only thing I would suggest for Jenny is that after the total pie was expanded to the full $xxx, she could have turned around and acted more distributively. Given the rationales presented, I would not have had difficulty allowing her to take the largest piece of the pie.

Steve did a terrific job in using a high aspiration point, an equal three-way split, and sticking to it in the face of tough opposition. He continued to deflect arguments well and successfully appealed to Jenny and me for an integrative solution. I did however feel that he took advantage of this situation towards the end of the negotiation. If he had allowed for an initial settlement at $xxx, $xxx and $xxx, I believe that he could have moved us up later using a post-settlement settlement and would have taken on less resentment in the end.

Blue Winds Dancing

By Whitecloud

A main idea of this work concerns itself with the role of contemporary Native Americans in white society. This is evident in the text when we read, No constant peering into the maelstrom of ones mind; no worries about grades and honors; no hysterical preparing for life until that life is half over; no anxiety about ones place in the thing they call society (1).

There is further support for this when the author says, I just sit by a fire and think about myself and all other young Indians. We just dont seem to fit in anywhere certainly not among the whites and not among the older people (14). Whitecloud experiences the role of contemporary Native Americans in a white society when he transferred from his white society to a Native American society.

A dominant tone of this piece could be described as sad and lonely. This feeling is conveyed to the reader by the image of the moon and a fall wind blowing in [Whiteclouds] heart (1). Whitecloud also tells the reader, I am alone; alone but not nearly so lonely as I was back on the campus at school (14). It is not until the end, when the main character is reunited with his people, that the tone changes to happiness.

A striking passage that deserves attention as a means to an important aspect of the work is when Whitecloud deecides, if he is white or Indian. He first asks, Am I Indian or am I white? (15) He says to himself, If I am white I will not believe that story. If I am Indian, I will know that there is an old woman under the ice (15). Although he knows the legend of the old woman under the ice cannot be true, the reader understands that Whitecloud decides to be Indian when he says, I listen for a while, and I know there is an old woman under the ice (15).

As I think about this passage, I connect it to the work in several ways and make interpretive meaning. The first way is that heritage by acknowledging his Indian roots. Also, the inclusion of Native American folklore in this piece signifies the importance of story telling in their culture. This particular aspect of Native American culture obviously had a significant impact on Whitecloud.

faust

We are ready to represent the best custom paper writing assistance that can cope with any task like faust even at the eleventh hour. The matter is that we posses the greatest base of expert writers. Our staff of freelance writers includes approximately 300 experienced writers are at your disposal all year round. Faust

A child has the ability to make the most critical and objective observation on society and the behavior of people. The reason for this is because a child has yet to mature and lacks proper education and experience. However, it is this reason that a child would make the perfect social scientist; his or her innocence may provide an excellent means of objective criticism. A childs curious nature and desire for knowledge would bring about an unbiased perspective of social structures. This is much like Faust. He believed that he accumulated more knowledge from his childhood nature and seeing society as it is, than from works.

One way in which the nature of being a child is used in Faust’s work is to discuss what he learned as a child compared to the knowledge he accumulated from reading. Faust illustrates how different situations and observations he made as a child are more influential to him than those of the text he read. It seems that wisdom in an array of aspects is much easier absorbed through experience and during the youth of a person. Faust states, “Was deep mysterious music, and to pray Was fervent ecstasy. I could not understand The sweet desire that drove me far away Out through the woods, over the meadowland There I would weep a thousand tears and feel A whole world come to birth, my own yet real Those hymns would herald youthful games we played To celebrate the spring. As I recall That childhood, I am moved, my hand is stayed, I cannot take this last and gravest step of all. Oh sing dear heaven- voices, as before! Now my tears flow, I love the earth once more!” (Faust 775-785). Sometimes knowledge and wisdom cannot be gathered by reading, but is to be found through experience. In turn, it can be understood that the innocence and ignorance of children may be greater means to engaging one self in search for knowledge, not found in books.

In many cases, the innocence of a child can be a helpful means of acquiring knowledge and viewing life. When an unknowledgeable person approaches a subject ignorant of what is going on, their youth and learned experience may come into play because not everything can be taught or learnt from books. That is exactly the case with the poem Faust and reveals the nature of children to be more meaningful than those of a manuscript. This vulnerability of a child allows one to take in, sometimes, much more than what is read or taught. Although the innocence of people is needed in society, we must be aware and be cautious of those that may take advantage or corrupt our child like nature.
